AROC is Hiring: Executive Director Job Description

AROC is a membership based organization led by a Collective comprised of paid staff and volunteer members. Volunteer members of the Collective and AROC General Members contribute much of the programmatic work and political direction of the organization. The Executive Director will be responsible for providing organizational leadership, fundraising, program supervision, and operational management within the context of this Collective structure. While many of the duties involve operations and fundraising, we are looking for a dynamic person who is interested and able to contribute to all aspects of the organization, including our programmatic work.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities


Financial and Organizational Management:

  • Develops and manages organizational budget and finances
  • Responsible for implementation of Tides policies for personnel, fiscal and other matters
  • Coordinates infrastructural needs (including I/T)

Human Resources:

  • With Advisory Board: Hires appropriate staff; develops job descriptions and assesses progress
  • Addresses staff needs on an individual, all staff, and Advisory Board level
  • Coordinates employee benefits and compensation with Tides Center (fiscal sponsor)

Organizational Leadership:

  • Maintains the vision and mission of the organization, builds understanding and commitment to that vision among key audiences. Ensures programmatic alignment with vision
  • Supervises other staff and is a liaison to volunteer Collective members
  • Maintains cooperative relationships with key organizational partners

Fundraising:

  • Obtains foundation and grassroots resources to support project work and management
  • Maintains timely, appropriate reporting on program and fiscal matters
  • Coordinates grassroots fundraising

Program Supervision:

  • Supports campaign planning and supervision for adult and youth campaigns
  • Conducts weekly support and supervision meetings with Membership Coordinator and AYO Coordinator, bi-weekly staff meetings with Legal team

Communications and Organizational Relationships: Supervises staff, members, or volunteers to ensure regular completion of the following projects

  • Develop newsletters and general publications for AROC
  • Respond to and send out media requests
  • Oversee maintenance of the website and maintaining other email communications
  • Build and maintain database for members, volunteers and supporters

Education and/or Experience

  • Direct experience in community-based organizing and membership development
  • Direct or Indirect experience with youth organizing
  • Fundraising and grant writing experience
  • Minimum 2 years experience with financial and programmatic management
  • Staff supervision experience

Qualifications

  • Organizational and program management
  • Required: Strong oral and written communication in English
  • Strongly preferred: Oral and written communication in Arabic
  • Ability to train and facilitate large and small groups
  • Strong commitment to social and racial justice
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Strong computer skills, including Word, Excel and Access
  • Knowledge of Arab culture, history, politics, language, and Arab American community

Physical Demands

  • Requires sitting, talking and listening for up to 8 hours per day
  • Standing and walking for up to 3 hours per day
  • A minimum 5 hours per day is spent at the computer and on phone

Compensation and Schedule

  • Salary, $47,000 – $52,000 commensurate with experience
  • Full medical coverage, dental and vision optional
  • Position will commence August 1, 2012 (timeline negotiable, inquire with AROC)
