  • ‘Voices from the Arab Meedan: A meeting point between Arab revolutionaries and Bay Area community’

Voices from the Arab Meedan flier full sheet front and back final 2

AROC will be co-hosting ‘Voices from the Arab Meedan: A meeting point between Arab revolutionaries and Bay Area community’ with Meedan (http://news.meedan.net/). What makes this event stand out, is that it is an interactive event, and not a static panel!

With this event we aim to connect individuals actively engaged in shaping this moment history with Bay Area community members who want to understand and contribute meaningfully to Arab movements of civic engagement, political organizing, and institutional change.

Live online discussion with influential revolutionaries and participants based in Arab countries such as:

    • Ahmed Mekkawy – founder of Spirula Systems, which defended Egyptian opposition websites from DDoS attacks (twitter @linuxawy)
    • Ahmed Ragab – Egyptian revolutionary and journalist for al Masry al Youm (@Ahmed_Ragab )
    • Fatma Emam – Cairo-based researcher at Nazra for Feminist Studies and Islamic feminist interested in the intersection of gender, religion and ethnicity (@fatmaemam).

Participants will hear reflections and perspectives from the speakers and discuss as a group what people outside the region may be able to do to help – as concerned journalists, techies, translators, activists and citizens.
