Friends of Wadi Foquin presents:
Hatim Kanaaneh, MD, Author of Chief Complaint: A Country Doctor’s Tales of Life in Galilee

Friends of Wadi Foquin cordially invites you to attend a presentation by Dr. Hatim Kanaaneh about his work in Palestine and his new book of short stories, Chief Complaint: A Country Doctor’s Tales of Life in Galilee, exploring the changing, precarious, and ever-shrinking world of Palestinians living in Israel.

As his village’s first Western-trained physician, Kanaaneh has had intimate access to his neighbors’ lives, which he chronicles in a fictionalized collection of vignettes that reveal the struggles, triumphs, memories, and hopes of indigenous Palestinians living in a state that does not acknowledge their past or encourage their future. The book, published by Just World Books, will be available to purchase.

Dr. Hatim Kanaaneh is a native of Arrabeh, in the Galilee. He completed his medical and public health degrees at Harvard in 1970 and returned to the Galilee, where he operated a solo physician’s practice while heading the region’s governmental health office. He is the founder of the Galilee Society, a nongovernmental organization working for equitable health, environmental, and socioeconomic conditions for Palestinian Arabs in Israel. He lives in Arrabeh.
